Alice's journey in Mallorca

One day Alice found a suspicious folder in a cupboard. She opened it and found some papers, which she started to read. It was then when she discovered that she was adopted. Disappointed because nobody had told her before, she caught a plane to Mallorca. She wanted to find her real family there.

When she arrived on the island, she started to look for her parents. First, she took The Sóller Railway, a locomotive that takes you back in time and which has connected the city of Palma de Mallorca with the small town of Sóller since 1912. She was so amazed to see the beautiful landscape of the narrow-gauge railway that took her to the Valley of Sóller. But unfortunately, she found no clues.

She decided to continue along the coast so she crossed the Island from north to south, from Alcúdia to Andratx but to no avail. Then, she started to search in the centre of the island. She went to Binissalem, Muro, Puigpunyent, Petra, Manacor, and finally, to Sa Pobla. On her journey she made some friends, like Tomeu Quely, who is from Inca; he has a biscuit factory there. He helped Alice look for her family. Or like Tomeu Penya, a singer very famous in the villages of Mallorca. He invited her to a party in Sa Pobla (here we call it “guateke”). At the party there were Paquita Tomás, a famous cook; El Casta, a very funny comedian and Pedrito de Campanet, a special singer and Rafel Fiol, a very good teacher from Es Liceu. All of them became very good friends, and they all decided to help Alice find her mum and dad. The next morning, they went to Palma City and they put an advert in Diario de Mallorca, the local newspaper. It read: “My name is Alice, I was born on the 29th February 1988. I've just discovered that I was adopted three months after my birth and I want to know who my real parents are. I assume they are here because the adoption documents say that my orphanage is here. Please, help me. This means a lot to me. If you know something, please contact me, my mobile number is: 886905694769. Thank you. Alice.

The next day, she decided to visit the orphanage with one of her friends. The orphanage was closed and abandoned. They couldn't get any information from there. Alice was very disappointed.

A few days later, Alice received a phone call from a lady from Binissalem (a small town in the centre of the Island known for its wine) whose name was Pixeris. Tearful, she said: I've seen the advert in El Diario D eMallorca and I recognise the date of your birth. I can't believe it's you! I'm your mum! I want to see you.

Alice and her mum met the next day in “Sa Plaça dels brolladors”. They spent the whole day talking and that was when Alice discovered that her dad was from Italy. So she decided to travel to Italy with her mum.

ALICE’S WINTER STORY IN ROMANIA

Once upon a time, there was a little girl, very stubborn, with big puppy blue eyes and a beautiful dark silken hair, that was glowing when she was staying in light, like a irradiant halo around her . Her name was Alice, she lived in a little town with “big” people. Everybody loved Alice, because she was nice and kind with everyone , and of course very naïve .
When the winter was about to come, she was already waiting for the Christmas with eagerness, because she knew that someone very special to her had to come . It was his BIG time. Yeah , you are right, you know who it is. Santa Claus!! She believed in Santa Claus more than anything, he was like a second father to her, because she knew and she felt something special and pure between them . Like some teenagers saying “Forever is over” for them this was just a joke to laugh about, they were inseparable through all those letters and beliefs they confide in, and especially the power from their relationship when they were together .
In one day when she was 5, she discovered and met for the first time an “outside “ world, just when the Santa came. There is where Santa took her away in every Christmas. A beautiful world , full of elves and snow and a lot of sweets . It was something magic to her, because she could only stay there for one day , so she had to enjoy everything as much as she could . Now she is 12, she has been there for 6 times. Imagine , she was extremely anxious to get there again. But something happened, her parents called her in their room to talk with her about something . She didn’t know what they wanted or what were they supposed to talk about. They started talking about this Santa Claus thing, they told her that Santa doesn’t exist, and everything she thinks is not real, is just an illusion to make her childhood more happier . In that moment she vanished from there, actually she was gone and devastated in her locked room, she was crying and yelling at her parents, she couldn’t believe that. And this year she didn’t “wait” the Christmas, everything to her was in vain, because she couldn’t feel anything about this Yule-tide thing.
And when the Christmas came, and the Santa was on her house with Rudolf and the other reindeers, she cried till she fell asleep, instead of staying near the fireplace to wait for “him”. Santa came inside her house , ate those tasty cookies with milk and then she was looking after Alice, he couldn’t find her because she even hid herself under the bed. Alice didn’t want to see him, she denied him. But then it happened, Alice came out with a big smile on her face and Santa gentle took her little delicate hand and took her away in the “outside” world.
She couldn’t believe this, she felt very special inside, like it was for the first time there and she realized that Santa is real to her and everything is real only because she believed in him more than anything.
When she got home, she decided to keep this “little” secret hidden . Alice slept a lot that day, thinking in her dreams about that fantastic world where she doesn’t have to be afraid of what the others think about her beliefs, of course Santa for her is real, we all have something real, we just got to find it .Like all the “Alice” stories, this one should’ve been a fantastic one too , so there you have it 2 Alice,2 worlds .

Alice went to Bulgaria

Alice went to Bulgaria. She said that the people were wearing some strange decorations during March. They were colored in white and red. She also told that the Bulgarians always wear them because of a tradition. According to a legend, before khan Asparuh established the Bulgarian kingdom, he told his sister, Huba, that they had found a land near the river Danube. His sister was a slave in another kingdom and she escaped. She mounted a horse and she took off to the river Danube. When she got there she tied a white thread to a falcon`s foot and released it. The falcon was going up when suddenly it felt down, hit by an arrow. The white thread was colored red by the falcon`s blood and Huba knew that her brother and his people were just across the river. The decoration was called “martenitsa”, because it happened in March and after that all Bulgarian people started to wear this decoration as a symbol of health and success. Alice was inspired by the legend about this decoration and she immediately put a martenitsa on her jacket and she loved it.

ALICE’s winter tour across Portugal

Once upon a time, Alice decided she didn’t know much about her own country and that it was time to undertake a journey to discover her country’s historical and natural landmarks. As summer time was crowded with foreign tourists and national holiday makers, she decided winter time was the best season to undergo this experience.
She started her journey when all the leaves had already fallen from the trees, rivers had overflowed banks and there was echo of the first snow flakes in the highest hills.
While crossing the country from North to South, Alice was amazed. She quickly became aware of its natural diversity and beauty and well preserved evidence of a nine-hundred-year-history.
Interested and curious, she met people who told her about ancient folk traditions; she learned about dialects and archaeological sites; she witness the growth of modern cities which contrasted with villages lost in time; she appreciated the Atlantic ocean breeze and smell along the 1230 km continental coastline. However she felt Azores and Madeira archipelagos were charmingly overwhelming.
Whenever she felt tired, wet and cold, in desperate need of an energy booster, she would stop at local cafés and restaurants to try the delights of Rich Mediterranean and Moorish influences and the wide variety of available ingredients which offered her the best flavours and textures. She was fully satisfied with both the hospitality and friendliness with which she was saluted everywhere.
She decided to stop her journey in front of the Monument to the Discoveries, which is homage to the Portuguese who set sail to unknown worlds, just like her own journey through her own country’s unknown. Like those sailors, she felt at home.

Alice‘s Christmas in Lithuania - english

Alice, like every child, waits for Christmas – time of dreams fulfillment. This year she is going to spend Christmas in Lithuania, interesting, but strange to Alice country. She was invited here by a new friend.
First in Lithuanian friends house Alice, has seen Christmas symbol - Lithuanian Christmas tree. It was decorated with shining sweets, apples, knitted snowflakes and jingles. Calm and dizzy candle light has wavered on the tree. Christmas tree has sent yet unknown smell to Alice. The friend has explained that it is a smell of Lithuanian forest.
Evening before Christmas in Lithuanians called Christmas Eve (Kūčios). When all family sits at the table, they remember passed away friends and relatives, talk about coming year. Alice was also sat by the big Christmas Eve table covered with white linen cloth, where all new friend‘s family has already sat. They have tasted twelve dishes made of fish, vegetables, mushrooms. Alice has tasted very unusual food to her poppy milk and kūčiukai - such little cookies, made without any fat.
After the supper wizardry and games have started. Everyone pulled out the straw from under the linen cloth and tried to guess, what their life will be. If you pull out a long straw - you will live long and happy, if short- you will have some troubles. After fun time, everyone has gone to the church for the Shepherd mass where Christmas celebrations have started.
Christmas morning was white and fun. Alice has found many gifts under the Christmas tree, that were waited very much. That was the most wonderful Alice‘s Christmas in Lithuania.
